AN INTERVIEW WITH DR. A. BIMOL AKOIJAM AND CHANDAM NETRAJ

1. Can you mention the gist of your film- APRIL-6th?
Ans. It is about an Indian widow. Renu, a 28 year- old widow in India, who transforms her life from the desperate situation of being labeled the wife of a "terrorist" to becoming a community leader fighting for the rights of widows of gun violence.
2. What are the problems faced by Manipuri people?
Ans. There are a lot of problems imposed by the military and army people. People of Manipur are struggling to maintain their every day life. There also exist a lot of social outcaste problems.
3. Who would you say, have supported you in this work?
Ans. Oxford International gave a great support and they gave great inspiration for releasing the film, especially as it is based on the destructions and mysterious disappearances that have been occurring in Manipur state. The movie got a marvellous reception in US. US government has shown a great interest in getting the film released. We expect to release it in US, as the Indian government hasn't shown any interest so far.
4. What is the theme that you've chosen for your next project? Is it also related to the social problems?
Ans. My next movie is an 'Autobiography of Sharmila'. It is based on the struggle of her life. I am also interested in choosing social problems to create awareness in the people and my film is my language to speak to them.
5. Do the problems of Manipur include the educational problems? Or how does it affect the educational system in Manipur?
Ans. Manipur is very much backward in education. Most of the students are migrating to other states or to the foreign countries for higher education. But the schools of Manipur are somehow better in providing good education. Even though the educational system has to improve a lot to improve the social status of the people and to equip them develop a sustainable living condition.
6. What message would you like to give for the future generations?
Ans. Hard working should be the first motto in each and every growing, developing generations. They should not spoil their life without any aim. Everybody should have an 'aim to achieve' aspect in their mind.
