Welcome to the 6th Edition of ViBGYOR International Film Festival

Dear Friends,

Greetings from VIBGYOR Collective and welcome to the 6th Edition of ViBGYOR International Film Festival for short and documentary films at Thrissur, Kerala, from January 12-16 to be held in the Sangeet Nataka Academy Campus! This Edition is dedicated to the memory of late C.Saratchandran, our friend, filmmaker and media activist, who apart from having produced many landmark political documentary films, has been championing the Touring Film Festival movement, `Nottam’ in Kerala and elsewhere. He was also the co-founder of the ViBGYOR Film Festival. In this context, we have chosen `Political Filmmaking and Media Activism in South Asia' as the special focus theme for ViBGYOR-2011. Anand Patwardhan has agreed to be the Festival Director for this 6th Edition.

This Homage Festival is special for all of us…and for Sarat! This is our first attempt to reach out to all friends of Sarat and invite all of you personally for the 5-day Festival. Please mark your calendars, January 12-16, and also please circulate this info in your e-groups and blogs, so that everyone who would want to attend this festival get this invite and information well in advance. You will get more details and updates on www.vibgyorfilm.org.

The uniqueness of ViBGYOR is that it is not a film festival with screening of a set of films for elite urban audiences, but is a meeting space for people's movements, filmmakers, and students from different campuses in Kerala and outside and also ordinary people from different panchayats in Thrissur District. At the annual festival venue, apart from the screening of around 100 short and documentary films from across the globe, we are planning a South Asia Conference / Sarat memorial Lecture on the Focus Theme, Mini Conferences on relevant topics, Campaigns, Workshops for young people, Cultural Night, a Farm & Food Fair and a Media Exhibition.

Various networks and groups, representing Indigenous People, Dalits, Youth, South Asian Relations, Human Rights, Environment and Development, Women’s Issues, Globalization, Labor, Culture and Media etc. at National and South Asian level have always actively participated at the VIBGYOR Festivals. We hope to strengthen such collaboration during the forthcoming festival. You may log on to www.vibgyorfilm.org and take a look at our previous festivals.
